March 9, 2011 – Ken takes us to Epcot Center…

Ken, in costume, describe life at Disney.
We knew Ken and his story from other caravans. His wife died maybe 12 years ago after a long and difficult illness. Ken was devastated and needed a dramatic change. He quit work, sold the home, and committed to traveling fulltime in his 34-foot Airstream (we have a 25-foot, for comparison). He did all the standard stuff, traveling alone on many caravans, becoming president of his unit. On a lark, he applied for a part-time job at Disneyworld and became a character bodyguard – the guy in semi-civies that escorts the near-blind costumed Mickeys and Plutos in pubic. This has become his wintertime fun job, with many Disney privileges.

Since we last saw Ken he has remarried and he and Linda now fulltime together.

Ken provided our group with as many Epcot passes has he could get, and on a beautiful morning we enter Epcot just after opening time.
Enjoying an upside-down waterfall are Art, Pat, John, Elain, Marcia and Mike.

This boat ride at the Mexican pavilion is a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and Small World.

Norway?

We were here maybe eight years ago. Although Epcot has been around a long time it seems much changed and more interesting. As always with Disney the landscaping is incredible and everything is clean. The crowds are probably less than at the Magic Kingdom, consisting mostly of parents and grandparents with small children, not that many teenagers. Lunch at a Mexican restaurant: an order of 3 very good tacos, chips, a beer, a margarita – about $39 dollars to lightly feed the two of us. We have a delightful day, leaving about 6 PM.
