January 11, 2011 Marcia discovers a gourd farm near the Casa Grande ruins...

Marcia and I left Indio and drove to Sunscape RV Park near Casa Grande, AZ. This is close to Tucson where a couple days ago six were killed in an attempt to assassinate a congresswoman. The tragedy was 24-hour news on the local stations during our stay, perhaps elsewhere as well.

We drove through rural areas, mostly cotton farms and empty land, small houses and shacks, to Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. This impressive structure was built probably in the 13th century and abandoned in maybe the 15th century. Even today it is the tallest structure for a considerable radius.

By pure coincidence, we also stumbled upon a gourd farm where Marcia was able to buy some raw materials. She plans to decorate them during idle moments, hoping to have them ready for sale at the Florida State Airstream Rally.

  1. I would've thought she'd have every gourd farm along your route already mapped out.
